An advance directive is a legal document that allows you to make decisions about your future medical care before a serious illness or injury prevents you from speaking for yourself. It lets you communicate your healthcare wishes and, if you choose, designate someone you trust to make medical decisions on your behalf. Nebraska law recognizes several types of advance directives, including a Living Will and a Power of Attorney for Health Care.
