MCHI Introduces Coronary Calcium CT Scanning at Memorial Hospital

June 9, 2025

Memorial Community Health is pleased to announce the addition of Coronary Calcium CT Scanning, now available at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. This non-invasive screening tool, also known as a Calcium CT Score, is designed to detect calcified plaque in the coronary arteries—an early indicator of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD).

A Coronary Calcium CT Scan uses a relatively low dose of radiation and can be a valuable tool in identifying heart disease before symptoms appear. This scan may be recommended by your healthcare provider if you have one or more risk factors for CAD, including:

  • High cholesterol levels
  • Age 40–70
  • Family history of heart disease
  • Smoking (current or former)
  • High blood pressure
  • Obesity or physical inactivity
  • Diabetes

“This is an exciting advancement for our community,” says Dr. Sean Flor, of Memorial Health Clinic. “Coronary Artery Disease is a leading cause of heart-related illness, and having access to this type of imaging helps us detect problems early—often before symptoms begin. This gives patients and their providers the opportunity to make lifestyle changes or begin treatments that could prevent serious events like heart attacks.”

Dr. Flor added, “With this new technology, we can offer our patients personalized insights into their heart health. After the scan, your provider will review the results with you and determine if any next steps are needed, whether that be further testing, medications, or changes to your current health plan.”

Please note: Coronary Calcium CT Scans are not typically covered by insurance. Memorial Community Health offers this service on a cash-pay basis. The cost is $120, and payment (cash or check) is due at the time of testing.

For more information or to see if a Coronary Calcium CT Scan is right for you, contact your primary care provider.  For an appointment, a referral from your healthcare provider is required, which can then be scheduled with Memorial Hospital’s Radiology Department at 402-694-8258.
