Kyle Shaffer, PT earns Vestibular Rehabilitation Certification

October 14, 2025

Memorial Community Health is pleased to announce that Kyle Shaffer, Physical Therapist at Memorial Rehabilitation in Aurora, has recently completed his Vestibular Rehabilitation Certification through the American Institute of Balance. This advanced training equips him with advanced skills to evaluate and treat patients experiencing dizziness, vertigo, and balance disorders.

The vestibular system, located in the inner ear, plays a vital role in helping the body maintain balance and a sense of orientation. When the system malfunctions, individuals may experience dizziness or vertigo that can affect their safety and quality of life.

A common vestibular condition, BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), occurs when tiny calcium crystals in the inner ear move into the wrong position. This often causes brief but intense dizziness with head movement. Thankfully, BPPV can often be corrected in just a few therapy sessions using simple, gravity-based repositioning maneuvers.

For patients whose dizziness is not caused by BPPV, vestibular rehabilitation provides hope through customized exercises designed to help the brain adapt and compensate. While these cases may take longer to improve, consistent therapy can significantly reduce symptoms and restore stability.

“Completing this certification allows me to offer patients a highly effective, evidence-based approach to treating dizziness and balance problems,” said Shaffer. “Many people don’t realize how treatable vertigo can be. With the right therapy, patients can find real relief and regain confidence in their daily activities.”

Memorial Rehabilitation encourages anyone experiencing dizziness or vertigo to consult their provider and ask about a referral option for vestibular rehab therapy at Memorial Rehabilitation. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 402-694-8254.
